This presentation will demonstrate the ROX Desktop running on it with a number of applications. ROX is written in the high-level Python language and based on classic principles in desktop and user interface design. ROX is a modern reimplementation of the classic desktop of RISC OS, the user interface of the revolutionary Acorn Archimedes computer. The computer brought the first RISC processor to the mass market, the Acorn RISC Machine ARM processor that is now in countless computer devices such as the new wave of smartphones. The software introduced new concepts such as context menus, consistent pervasive use of drag and drop, and a panel bar which was (badly) copied in Windows 95 a decade later and is now standard on all desktop systems. The demonstration will show that the original concepts are still not surpassed by other systems, and are particularly suitable for the new waves of small mobile devices. ROX also comes with its own innovations, such as Zero Install, a decentralised package manager that makes software installation user-friendly and is used by the Sugar user interface that originated on the OLPC. You then may fill out the form and press the Submit button to send it directly to your trading partner as an XML message. Incoming XML messages are also presented in your browser as readable forms, which you then may print, store or reply to.
