Software Freedom Day is a global celebration of free software, open source software and related subjects. The goal of this day is to educate the worldwide public about about good quality free and open source software (FOSS) in education, at the government and in business. Teams of volunteers organise every year worldwide in their local area activities to educate the public about these technologies. In the Europe Software Freedom Day's are being organised every year since 2004.
Origin of Software Freedom DayIn 2003 during an it-conference of the United Nations the initiative was taken to popularise free software to the worldwide public, like education and business. Some people decided to get attention for free and open source software, open content, and related technologies during an international event. Software Freedom Day was born! |
